Free Drop-In & Sew Week at Ulster University Belfast
Quilts for Care Leavers NI will be holding a free Drop-In & Sew event at Ulster University’s Belfast campus from Monday17 August to Friday 21 August, running each day from 10 am to 4 pm.
Following the success of our previous Build-a-Block events, this week is a relaxed opportunity for people to get involved, support our work, and find out more about how we provide handmade quilts to young adults leaving the care system across Northern Ireland.
How the event will work
The event will run as a drop-in and sew session. You are welcome to come along for an hour, stay for the full day, or return more than once during the week.
Sewing machines, fabric and studio space will be provided.
Sewing tuition
If you are new to sewing and would like some help using a sewing machine, we will have six bookable tuition places available each day.
Tuition sessions will begin at 11 am daily.
Please book only one place to begin with. If you would like to return another day, you can simply drop in and we will help you continue from where you left off.
Booking will be available through our website here: Sew Days | Quilts For Care Leavers NI
Location
The event will take place on the first floor of the Birley Building, York Street, at Ulster University’s Belfast campus.
Other ways to help
There will also be plenty of other useful tasks for anyone who would like to support us but does not want to use a sewing machine. These include:
- Hand sewing our special labels onto completed quilts
- Hand finishing quilt bindings
- Cataloguing quilts ready to go into stock
- Sorting fabrics
- Helping with other behind-the-scenes tasks
You are also very welcome to pop in simply to meet us and find out more about what we do.
We would love to see you there.
